Ministry of Defense of Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Lovely Professional University of India through which Maldivian nationals will be able to receive scholarships for counter-terrorism awareness and training courses.
The MOU was signed in the Coastguard building this Wednesday by Minister of Defense Adam Shareef Umar and Vice Chairman of Lovely International Trust, Naresh Mittal.
Speaking to press after signing the MOU, Minister Adam Shareef said that the MOU was part of Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s counter-terrorism campaign to raise awareness regarding terrorism across the country and empower individuals from within the Maldivian community to fight against terror.
He said that various awareness programs would be conducted across the country as part of the MOU.
“With this MOU, we will, god willing, be able to provide people working in the Maldivian security field low-cost scholarships,” said Adam Shareef.
