Media rights workshop in association with IFJ begins

Workshop on rights of reporters and protection of those rights – organized by Media Development Foundation Maldives and International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) – has begun.

The two-day workshop – held at Champa Central Hotel – began this Tuesday morning.

South Asia Region Coordinator for IFJ, Ujjwal Acharya will be lecturing at the workshop, which is being participated by a large number or Maldivian reporters.

In his opening speech, Chairman of Media Development Foundation, Ahmed Zahir (Hiriga) spoke about the various challenges being faced local media stations at the moment, and expressed hope that the workshop would be helpful to local reporters so they can learn to work their way through the challenges and perform responsibly.

Zahir stressed that despite how challenging it was for reporters to remain free of political influence, especially during such challenging times, it was nevertheless vital that reporters rise above all forms of influence to deliver unbiased news to the public.
