Health Workers to be transferred back to Health Ministry

Ministry of Health has announced today that Public Health Workers are to be transferred from Councils to the Centre for Higher Community Health and Disease Control operated by Ministry of Health.

Speaking at a press conference today, Minister of Health Dr Ahmed Jamsheed said that this decision was made due to several health services being halted as a result of health departments being operated by Councils.

“The government has made the decision to return Committee Health Workers, Family Health Workers, and all Health workers back to the Ministry,” Jamsheed said.

He added that they will be transferred to the government within the next two weeks, and that from now on, only municipal responsibilities will be assigned to Councils.

“This change will enable us to recommence halted projects, and also make the operation of Island Health Centres easier,” Jamsheed said.

He said that the decision was made following discussions with Local Government Authority and Councils.

Public Health Services and Health Workers were transferred to Councils in March 2011.
