Pavement being built on the northern side of the Republic Square

Housing Ministry has started building pavement sidewalk on the northern side of Jumhooree Maidhaan (Republic Square) towards Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

The lack of a sidewalk near the Republic Square makes it dangerous to walk near there.

Coordinator of the Housing Ministry, Ibrahim Fayaz told Sun Media today that a 4ft-wide sidewalk is being built in the area and would be completed in the next ten days.

The sidewalk is being built where sitting areas were previously located at the Republic Square.

Housing Ministry is building the sidewalk following a request the Police according to their instructions.
