International hotel and resort chain InterContinental is to develop its first resort in Maldives under its brand name - InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort – in the uninhabited island Maamunagau in R. Atoll.
The resort will be developed by Singaporean company – Hotel Properties Limited (HPL) – which InterContinental has signed a management contract with.

nterContinental and HPL already runs a resort in Maldives – Holiday Inn Resort Resort Kandoomaa Maldives, but the resort in Maamunagau will be the first resort which will be opened in Maldives under the InterContinental brand name.
The two companies have reported that the 83-bed resort in Maamunagau will be developed and opened within five years.
The CEO of InterContinental Asia, Middle East and Africa, Jan Smits has said that Maldives was a world-renowned tourist attraction, and that this was an opportune time for the company to set up shop in the country.
