Ameen Faisal questioned in relation to President Yameen’s arrest in Nasheed reign

Former Defense Minister in the Presidency of Mohamed Nasheed, Ameen Faisal has been questioned by the Police in suspicion of terrorism in relation to the arrest of the current President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom during the reign of Ex-President Nasheed.

In the Presidency of Mohamed Nasheed, then MP for Mulaku constituency, Abdulla Yameen was arrested by the MNDF and taken to Aarah on the night of 14 July 2010. A little over a week later, he was released on 23 July.

Then MP Yameen was taken to Aarah after being released by a court order from the Supreme Court earlier after being arrested in suspicion of bribing MPs to over throw the government.

After being accused under the former Anti-terrorism Law and the Penal Code and questioned by the Police tonight, Ameen Faisal said that he did not do anything illegal during his term as the Defense Minister.

The Chief of Defense Force at the time of the incident, Major General Retired Moosa Ali Jaleel was also summoned to the Police tonight and questioned. He responded to the questions by the Police and gave a statement.

But the contents of his statement to the Police are unclear at this time. Neither Moosa Ali Jaleel nor his attorney, Husnu Suood made any comments to the press tonight.
