The three friends of Izuham Mohamed, 21 - who escorted him on the trip to Sri Lanka where he was killed after getting trampled under a train on September 3 – have made their court appearances to provide their statements.
“Sun” has been informed that the three men made their court appearances and provided statements of their account of what took place the day Izuham died last Monday, September 19.
Sri Lankan police investigating the case have already taken statements from the three men and eyewitnesses of the incident.
The group of four Maldivian men – including Izuham – had travelled to Sri Lanka for a holiday on September 1.
Izuhan had been out with one of the friends on Saturday morning, September 3, when he was crushed under the train in front of Ocean Colombo located in Bambalapitiya neighborhood of Colombo.
According to the friends, the man who was with Izuhan had been taking to a Maldivian acquaintance who he met upon chance when a Sri Lankan man came and told him that Izuhan had been caught underneath a train trying to cross the tracks.
Izuhan, head swollen and distorted with limbs broken and positioned awkwardly, had only been recognizable through the clothes he had been wearing; his watch frozen at 9:25 am, what is believed to be the time of impact.
A senior official from the Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka spoke to “Sun” and said that the three men were not under arrest, and that making court appearances to provide statements was part of normal procedure in Sri Lanka involving such cases.
Izuham had been a Sharia and Law major from Maldives National University, in his last semester of studies.
