Advanced Pediatric Life Support training program concluded

An advanced training program on providing first aid and life support for small children at risk has been successfully concluded.

The closing ceremony of the Advanced Pediatric Life Support Training Program conducted in Malé City from 13-19 September was held at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The training was conducted by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and UNICEF in association with Australian Faculty of Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS Australia) and IGMH with the purpose training medical staff to increase proficiency and reduce the number of lives of children that are lost in natural disasters in the Maldives.

Speaking at the closing ceremony today, the State Minister of the Health Ministry, Hussain Rasheed said that it was one of the few opportunities to provide training to doctors and it was a very important program for a country like the Maldives.

He said that an effort would be put to hold the next such program at a regional hospital.

Pediatric Doctors along with other doctors and nurses from the Pediatric Departments of ADK, IGMH and Hulhumalé Hospital took part in the training program alongside lecturers from the Faculty of Health Science.

The week-long training was conducted by instructors from APLS Australia.

Participants of the program were awarded certificates at the closing ceremony today along with a scenario performance of saving a pediatric life in a crisis situation.
