Riko: Will take MDP to level that say Nasheed does not control it

Vice President of the Parliament Riko Moosa Manik has said that he would take the main opposition party MDP to a level that no one could say it is a party controlled by the former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking at a press conference by the name of “MDP to the road of democracy” held by some of the member of MDP at Hotel Jen today, the former Chairperson of MDP, Riko Moosa said that he resigned from his position at the party in 2014 to guide the party towards democracy in the hands of the young, leadership youth of the party.

But instead, Moosa said what came after was a group of people who damaged the party “hijacked” it, people from outside got involved and started doing things outside the law.

Moosa said that as a result, the people got worried and started seeing people that want nothing but power to rule.

He said that while the party generates MVR 14 million annually, it is not to be used to promote people who were brought to the party from outside. Moosa said that the money given to the party from the State must be used to run the different branches of the party and hold elections.

Riko Moosa said that he would do all that needs to be done to remove the brand on MDP that say that the party is controlled by the Ex-President Nasheed.

Moosa said that there is no need to do it by confronting or being aligned with anyone and that MDP must run within the laws and regulations.
