The seminar began on Monday to provide detailed information to relevant authorities regarding the book ‘High Court Reporter II’ which contains details of sexual abuse of minors cases looked into by the High Court.
The book, released 10 months back, contains details on sexual abuse cases involving minors looked into by High Court from the point when Maldivian Constitution took effect to April, 2015.
It amounts to 46 cases.
The seminar to provide relevant authorities with details regarding the cases began at Stelco Seminar Room on Monday morning.
Retired Justice of High Court, Yoosuf Hussain, who was chief guest of the ceremony to inaugurate the seminar, said in his speech that study of such cases was of immense importance to relevant authorities.
He said that the book would also be important for reference of prosecutors and judges when dealing with similar cases in the future.
High Court reported that 35 officials – from Attorney General’s Office, Prosecutor General’s Office, Maldives Police Service and institutions and NGOs that deal with protection of children – are participating in the one-day seminar.
The first book – ‘High Court Reporter I’ was released in 2014 and contains details of cases involving family disputes.
