A man being detained in the prison of the Correctional Service has died.
The man who dies at the remand center in Malé City was 57-year-old Adam Ali.
Information Officer of the Correctional Service, Ahmed Lugman told Sun Media that the man passed away yesterday.
“While in the cell yesterday morning around 8:15, he fell. We took him to hospital at 8:20. Even when we took him, he wasn’t moving.” Lugman said.
He said that the man was buried after the Isha Prayers last night.
It is unclear as to under which case the man was being detained.
The Correctional Service said that the man’s death is being investigated by the Police and the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
Police has refused to give a comment to the media regarding the death of the man in detention.
