MDP calls for the release of the members of their National Council

MDP has called for the release of three of the members of the MDP National Council currently in prison.

A statement issued by the party yesterday said that the three members in prison, Ahmed Eesa, Mohamed Waheed and Assad Ali are in prison unjustly and are being subject to cruelty.

Criminal Court has sentenced all three to 13 days in prison.

The opposition MDP said that three MDP Council members were arrested by the government as retaliation to the Al-Jazeera documentary “Stealing Paradise” exposing the corruption, money laundering and the acts of terrorism organized by the government to the world.

The MDP statement raised concerns and noted that the more the Yameen government is losing support and being exposed to the people and the world, the more political figures are being arrested.

Three members of the MDP National Council were arrested during a protest rally by the Maldives United Opposition (MUO) last Thursday. Information Officer of the Police, Ismail Ali has previously told Sun Media that all three were not arrested in relation to the protest rally but with a court order in relation to an ongoing investigation.
