MRDC contracted to build drainage system in Thinadhoo

Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) has been contracted to build a drainage system in G. Dh. Thinadhoo to solve the problem of flooding.

The contract was signed in a ceremony held at Ministry of Environment and Energy on Thursday morning by Minister of Environment, Toriq Ibrahim and Deputy Managing Director of MRDC, Ahmed Mamdhooh.

MRDC was contracted to complete the MVR 37,925,762.33 project within a month’s time.

Minister Toriq expressed hope the project would provide a solution to the problem of flooding in

the island.

Ministry of Environment said that the drainage system included installation of aqua cells underneath the sidewalks.

With the drainage system, up to 2,000 quad meters of rain water will be stored during showers, replenishing the island’s natural supply of fresh groundwater.

Excess water that isn’t absorbed with the aqua cells will be drained out with pumps.
