Lawyer: Ilyas was summoned in suspicion of coup

Lawyer of the former MP for the Hulhumeedhoo constituency, Ilyas Labeeb, has said that his client was summoned to the Police Station today to be questioned in the investigation into suspected plans to overthrow the government.

Talking to Sun Media, Lawyer Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar said that Ilyaas was summoned to the Police to confiscate his phone.

According to the court order to confiscate the former MP’s phone, Nazim said that the suspected charge on his client is planning to overthrow the elected government in the Maldives.

He said that the Police did not take a statement from Ilyas and only took his phone and set him free.

Police Media Official confirmed to Sun Media that the former MP was summoned to be questioned in relation to an ongoing investigation.
