Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has begun responding to distress call from a cargo boat taking in water while travelling from Malé to Kaafu atoll Hinmafushi.
Following the report of the incident at 8 p.m. tonight, Coast Guard Squadron Harbor Craft 104 went to the boat in distress with pumps and began providing assistance. The Coast Guard Squadron is currently assisting the boat to the Hulhumalé lagoon after draining the water that it has taken.
The incident occurred when the boat got caught in torrential rain while travelling near Kaafu atoll Gaagandu according to MNDF.
MNDF say that two foreigners and a local man were the only people onboard the 48 foot vessel when the incident occurred.
