Item stolen from Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo arena recovered – suspect in custody

Maldives Police Service has recovered the stolen items from the Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo sports arena used to build the indoor court and arrested a suspect.

Police Media Official said that following the theft of a number of electrical and other tools used to build the indoor court at Thinadhoo sports arena on Tuesday, 23 August 2016, a search warrant was executed on Wednesday and arrested a 55-year-old local man from the island around 3:45 p.m.

The Police Media Official said that three houses were searched in relation to the case and at a room of one of the houses related to the suspect, a large number of electrical tools believed to be stolen were found.

In the operation conducted alongside Police Intelligence, Police said that they found the stolen items from the sports arena at the suspect’s house and they are being returned to the rightful owners.

Police said that all of the items that went missing have not been recovered.

Thinadhoo Magistrate Court remanded the suspect to seven days in detention to a location designated by the Home Ministry to investigate the case further.

Police Media Official said that the case is being investigated by the Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo Police Station.
