Adheeb: Charges brought from previously convicted crime, this is a big joke

Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor has said that the charges brought forth against him regarding the weapons cache hidden at Baa Atoll Hibalhidhoo are based on a crime he has already been convicted of, and it is a joke.

At a hearing at the Criminal Court today, the former Vice President said that a two charges has been brought up against him on one crime and he believes that the verdict of the case has already been written.

“This is a very big joke. I believe the verdict has been written. Nothing more I should say (in this case).” Adheeb said.

Regarding the former VP’s comments, Judge Shakeel said that he did not take the case to get the outcome a specific person wants. The Judge said that the trial would continue after making sure that the defendant has been granted all the rights reserved for him by the Constitution of the Maldives.

The Judge also advised Adheeb not to speak in such a manner and said that if such comments are repeated, he might proceed in another way.
