Al-Jazeera requests comment from Maldivian government for “Stealing Paradise”

Al-Jazeera has requested a comment from the Maldivian government for their documentary “Stealing Paradise” – which is about alleged corrupt conduct by the current administration.

International Spokesperson of President’s Office, Ibrahim Shihab Hussain said that Al-Jazeera sent their request for a comment via email on Sunday.

He said that the Maldivian government would provide a response to their questions.

Shihab said that the questions were regarding pre-existing allegations, but said that the

President’s Office would not be releasing details regarding the questions at the moment.

President’s Office had denied any knowledge of the Al-Jazeera documentary up until Sunday, but confirmed that they were aware some Al-Jazeera reporters had visited Maldives, adding that the President’s Office had even provided them assistance.

“Sun” has been informed that the documentary contains new revelations regarding the former Vice President and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, who is currently imprisoned.

The documentary “Stealing Paradise” is to be released in late August.
