Family of the 76-year-old man - Ahmed Hassan (Hassanlhakoe) from V. Felidhoo - who went missing on August 10 are continuing efforts to search for him, even after authorities have abandoned their official search and rescue operation.
The military ended their S&R operation for Hassanlhakoe on August 15, having searched 117.54 square miles.
And the S&R operation using divers from the island and neighboring islands initiated by
Felidhoo Council has also ended with no sign of Hassanlhakoe.
President of Felidhoo Council, Hassan Ali spoke to “Sun” on Monday and said that
Hassanlhakoe’s family was braving the bad weather and continuing their efforts to search for him.
“The family hasn’t stopped. They go out to the sea and do what they can. They are going out in small boats without losing hope he may be found. But all authorities have stopped their official efforts,” said Hassan.
Hassanlhakoe has a wife, seven children, and numerous grand and great-grandchildren.
Hassan said that Hassanlhakoe was in relatively good health for his age, and went swimming regularly.
His slippers were found on the beach and his spectacles were recovered from the sea.
