Parties contracted to build waste management centers in 3 islands, upgrade centers in 3 more

Ministry of Environment has contracted six companies to build waste management centers in three islands, and upgrade the waste management centers in three more islands.

The contracts were signed in a ceremony held at Ministry of Environment on Sunday.

Waste management centers will be built in:

• R. Fainu

• B. Goidhoo

• G. Dh. Gaddhoo

The MVR 829,522.36 project to build a waste management center in R. Fainu was contracted to Thashisha Private Limited, and the MVR 872,862.31 project to build a waste management center in B. Goidhoo was contacted to Brothers Mal Investment.

Meanwhile, the waste management center in G. Dh. Goidhoo will be built as part of the Small-scale Waste to Energy System project in Addu City.

The project is a regional one – covering Addu City, Gn. Fuvahmulah, G. Dh. Atoll and G. A. Atoll.

It is funded through Abu Dhabi Fund for Development loan aid and the Maldivian government.

The MVR 1,094,765.54 project to build the waste management center in G. Dh. Goidhoo was contracted to Thashisha Private Limited.

Minister of Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim said that companies had been contracted to build waste management centers, and that a company would be contracted to build a waste management center in the remaining island very soon.

Waste management centers will be upgraded in:

• N. Kendhikulhudhoo

• R. Alifushi

• B. Fulhadhoo

The projects are funded through Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP).

The MVR 736,170 project to upgrade the waste management center in N. Kendhikulhudhoo was contracted to New Hiyaa Investment, the MVR 982,663.01 project to upgrade the waste management center in R. Alifushi was contracted to Brohood Construction Private Limited, and the MVR 648,201.29 project to upgrade the waste management center in B. Fulhadhoo was contracted to Thashisha Private Limited.

Thoriq said during the ceremony that companies had already been contracted to upgrade waste management centers in 11 more islands so far this year. And that government was spending MVR 5.9 million for the projects.

He said that waste management projects were being carried out it all islands except for two as set in the budget, and that projects will start in the remaining two islands very soon.
