Addu City bus service customer-count reaches over 10,000 people

Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Mohamed Junaid has announced that the company had gotten a good response to the bus services they set up in Addu City, serving over 10,000 customers in a little over a month.

Junaid made the announcement after the ceremony held at MPL area this Sunday morning to gift joalifathi – a Maldivian version of lounging chairs – to the company’s workers.

Junaid noted that there was a huge demand for land and sea transportation in Addu City.

MPL launched bus services in Addu City on July 19.

Junaid said that MPL had also established a temporary ferry terminal in S. Hulhumeedhoo, and would open another one in Feydhoo within a week’s time.

In addition to the joalifathi, MPL said that the company would also be building stone benches in the MPL area so that their workers can have some rest in the shade as they continue with their work.

Junaid said that MPL had requested permission from Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure to develop the area, and that they had gotten a very positive response.
