Maldivian professional carom player Aishath Fainaaz has made history by becoming the first Maldivian female carom player to beat an Indian.
Fainaaz beat Indian carom player Tuba Seher on Saturday during the test series between Maldives and India.
It is being held at Carom Hall in Male’, Maldives.
The first set of the match between Fainaaz and Seher was very competitive – with Fainaaz beating the Indian player by a narrow margin – with 25-24.
Things took an upward turn during the second set, with Fainaaz beating Seher 25-7.
Fainaaz therefore won the batch by beating Seher in two sets – straight.
Tuba is one of the key players in the Indian national carom team, securing the runner-up position in the ICF Cup last year.
Fainaaz managed to make history by becoming the first female Maldivian carom player to beat an Indian, but the senior Maldivian national team wasn’t as lucky in the other two matches played with the Indian team – losing the other two matches.
The junior Maldivian national team also played against the Indian team – losing the first match between the male junior teams 2-1 sets, and the second match between female junior teams by straight three-sets.
Matches are to continue Saturday afternoon, evening and night.
Maldivian Carom Association said that the test series between Maldives and India – which will continue until August 22 – was preparation for the upcoming 7th World Carom Championship which will be held in the UK this year.
Maldivian carom players have won international recognition for their performance, with the Maldivian female national carom team winning the Bronze medal in ICF Cup 2015 – team event.
