Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), announced on Saturday that they had established focal points in each inhabited island in the country to inspect shops due to concern over hygiene and health standards.
Senior Scientific Officer of MFDA, Saajidha Mohamed spoke to “Sun” on Saturday and said that a focul point had been established on each island to conduct the inspections, and that inspectors would be trained in the upcoming week.
“They will do the inspections at the island level through the focal points, and then report back to us,” said Saajidha.
Saajidha said that MFDA had completed inspecting 90 percent of the shops in Male’ – and would start inspecting shops in Vilimale’ and Hulhumale’ very soon.
She said that businesses which weren’t complying with MFDA hygiene and health standards would be let off with a warning, this time around. But warned that a bigger crackdown would start later, during which businesses which had not rectified their actions would be dealt with harsher penalties.
