Three journalists released after arrest near Islamic Center

Three journalists have been released after their arrest near the Islamic Center after the Friday Prayers today.

Information Officer of Police, Ismail Ali told Sun Media that the three journalists were released after advisement. They were detained according to the Police.

The journalists arrested today were two video journalists from Sangu TV, Ahmed Ayad and Janah Adam and the Raajje TV journalist, Mohamed Mamdhooh.

Regarding the arrests, the Managing Director of Sangu TV, Ibrahim Waheed told Sun Media that Ayad and Janah were arrested right after they finished the prayer.

He said that even under the Anti-defamation law, it is legal to report and broadcast live events.

The Managing Director of Sangu TV raised concerns regarding the arrests saying that Sangu TV is very concerned that journalism has declined so much that live events cannot be broadcasted legally called for an immediate end to the unlawful arrests of journalists covering live events.

COO of Raajje TV, Fiyaz Moosa told Sun Media that their journalists were at the Islamic Center to cover the Friday Prayer and Sermon. And after the prayer, some people started making prayers near the Islamic Center and so the journalists covered it as well.

He said that the Raajje TV journalist, Mamdhooh was obstructed and arrested while trying to cover the people making the prayer.
