Deputy Mayor of Malé City, Shifa Mohamed has said that the Maldives United Opposition (MUO) will acquire 80 percent of the seats in the upcoming Local Council Election.
Speaking at an MUO function at Gn. Fuvahmulah last night, the Education Minister of the MUO Shadow Cabinet, Shifa said that MDP would be taking part in the Council Election as part of the united coalition of MUO.
She said that 80 percent of the seats can be acquired by working together and called to the people to start working with maximum effort.
Shifa said that the current government must not be allowed to have a single seat in the next council election. As to why that is, she said that the government has been violating the rights of the people and keeping the people oppressed from the day it the current government came to power.
The Vice President of Adhaalath Party, Ali Zahir, who is also on the coalition, spoke at the function saying that the government today is at a low state and there is no one to raise their voice to defend the Presidency.
And he said that from the moment the PPM President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom started criticizing the government of his party, the government has “ended.”
