Bank of Maldives (BML) has decided to sell USD to travellers from the Bazaar Branch despite the relocation from Sea Tracs building to the STO Trade Center.
Media Official of BML told Sun Media tonight that initially, the bank wanted to change all it’s services at the Bazaar Branch to BML Lite but in an effort to find an easier way for travellers, BML Bazaar Branch would be selling USD to travellers for the next two weeks.
BML is currently selling USD 500 to every ticket abroad.
The bank said that important steps would be taken to find easier ways for their customers.
A statement issued by the bank today said that they have been selling dollars to approximately 350 travelers per day over recent weeks, with USD 500 provided to each valid travel tickets are produced and the bank is now committed to increase it’s support to at least 500 people per day over the next two weeks.
“The supply of dollars to travelers is an initiative that was started by MMA two years ago and Bank of Maldives has been by far the most active supporter of the scheme, supplying USD 39 million this year alone. These dollars have come from MMA as well as the Bank’s own funds. BML will now mobilize more of its own funds to meet the high level of demand from the traveling public.” The bank said in their statement.
BML has also decided to take steps to prevent the misuse of the scheme. And so, the individual who is traveling must come to the branch to make the currency purchase in person.
In order to support families traveling together, the Bank will allow an individual to purchase dollars for a maximum of five people.
