Police: No more street events in Malé City

Maldives Police Service has said that no event or rally obstructing the traffic flow would be allowed on the streets of the capital, Malé City.

Police said that with public gatherings obstructing traffic flow and foot traffic, no one would be allowed to hold such an event.

The Parliament passed the amendment to the Law of Public Gathering on Wednesday that requires permission from the Police before holding any public gathering, rally or float round.

Aside from political activities, Police said that other public events conducted by closing roads would not be allowed either.

The Police said that they believe a large number of people are affected from unruly traffic flow on weekends where a large number of people take to the streets to visit and spend time with family and friends.

Police said that they would take any means necessary to stop the events that goes against the regulation.
