Government inquires about debts before selling off PER AQUUM Niyama

Ministry of Tourism has ordered for a debt scan on PER AQUUM Niyama – run in Dh. Enboodhoofushi-Olhuveli – before selling off the island.

Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) made the announcement that they were going to sell off the island for USD 23.3 million last Tuesday.

The island is being sold to O Plus E Holdings Private Limited, which runs PER AQUUM Niyama on the island.

Ministry of Tourism has announced that any debts be brought to their attention before September 6.

MTDC said that they had decided to sell the island to make capital as the government had asked the Corporation to settle all lease payments owing from islands leased for tourism within this year.

MTDC has said that running the Corporation on lease payments collected from islands leased for tourism was not a sustainable method, and has announced that they will be selling off more islands this year.
