Education: No low quality teachers employed

Ministry of Education has said that there are no low quality teachers in any school in the country.

Talking to Sun Media, the Senior Policy Executive at the Education Ministry, Shereena Abdul Samad said that they have been deporting if a teacher with low standards is reported. And so a large number of teachers were deported this year as well.

Shereena said that if a quality issue of a teacher is reported, it is investigated. She said that a number of programs are being conducted to improve the quality of teachers in the country.

While the Education Ministry defends by saying that there are no low quality teachers, the Teacher’s Association and a number of teachers have complained about the poor quality of teachers.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has previously said that the panel from Maldives that goes abroad to find teachers conduct acts of corruption and bring in teachers of poor quality.

In response to the ACC, Shereena said that teachers are interviewed by a trusted team selected by the Ministry and based on how the team is formed; it is not believable that such a thing occurs.

She said that teachers that cannot perform up to the standards of the Ministry would also be deported in the future.
