Committee backs Mundhu as Ambassador to Japan

Committee of National Security has provided their backing after evaluating former government minister Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) – nominated as the new Maldivian Ambassador to Japan by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Committee provided their backing to Mundhu with the vote of the majority of Committee members on Tuesday.

Article 115 (l) of Maldivian Constitution states that state ambassadors to foreign countries and international organizations can be appointed only after consulting with People’s Majlis.

Mundhu will replace Ahmed Khaleel – whose term as Ambassador to Japan has expired.

Mundhu had served as Minister of Youth and Sports in former Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s Cabinet, and as Minister of Presidents Office in President Yameen’s Cabinet.

He resigned from the post on October 25, 2015.
