Elections Commission has said that they will resolve all concerns raised regarding the establishment of an e-voting system in the country, and expressed hope all political parties will participate in the upcoming Local Elections.
Opposition party – Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) announced officially on Monday that they will not participate in the elections.
Speaking to “Sun” regarding MDP’s decision, member of EC, Ahmed Akram said that any concern regarding an election by any political party was something the Commission took very seriously.
He said that the Commission was ready to resolve any such concerns.
“We maintain hope all political parties will participate in the elections. We will provide whatever assistance needed to the best of our abilities,” said Akram.
He said that Maldives had the highest vote rate compared to its population, and expressed hope that the fact will continue in the future.
MDP has expressed concern that the e-voting system will be tampered with, something which is denied by EC.
Akram repeated that the system cannot be tampered with, and said that political parties would be provided the opportunity to test it, before the Local Elections.
