MDP to join MUO at the local council election

MDP has decided to join the Maldives United Opposition (MUO) in the upcoming local council election in January.

The decision was made at the 146th meeting of the National Congress of MDP after discussing the resolution presented by the Vice President of the party, Mohamed Shifaz. The resolution passed with 25 votes of the 32 members present.

According to the resolution, the regulations and the number of members taking part along with the constituencies will be decided after the MDP Leadership discusses it with the MUO.

The Vice President of MDP said that MDP would be deciding their candidates but the constituencies would be decided after discussing with MUO.

The discussions would be held within a small committee consisting of members from MDP and MUO. After which the results of the discussions would be presented to the MDP Congress to get their thoughts.

The MDP Congress today decided that they would not be taking part in the election if e-voting is introduced.
