Committee evaluates Mundhu as Ambassador to Japan

Committee on National Security has started deliberating over President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s nominee as new Maldivian Ambassador to Japan – former government minister Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu).

The matter was sent to Committee on National Security during the People’s Majlis sitting on Monday.

Article 115 (l) of Maldivian Constitution states that state ambassadors to foreign countries and international organizations can be appointed only after consulting with People’s Majlis.

Mundhu will replace Ahmed Khaleel – whose term as Ambassador to Japan has expired.

Mundhu had served as Minister of Youth and Sports in former Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s Cabinet, and as Minister of Presidents Office in President Yameen’s Cabinet.

He resigned from the post on October 25, 2015.
