Ministry: Priority of motorcycle taxi law is customer safety

As the final preparations are being made to introduce Motorcycle Taxi service in the Malé, the Economic Ministry has said that their priority is customer safety.

The two companies that have been given the permit for the service are Ride Maldives and Wheel MV. The service is set to begin next month at the latest.

Speaking at a press conference at the Economic Ministry today, the State Minister of the Economic Ministry, Abdul Latheef Mohamed said that while motorcycle taxi would be offered on vehicles easier for customers, for their safety, driver’s information would be given to them.

He said that the service is set to be on the international standard and issues that would come up will be resolved.

Latheef said that a sticker would be used to indicate that it is a taxi since they would be using motorcycles currently in use.

The State Minister said that the regulation on the driver’s uniform and other changes along with the fare have not been decided yet.

The main purpose of introducing motorcycle taxi in the Maldives is to introduce to establish an easy means of transportation.
