Sri Lankan ‘sniper’ Lahiru Madushanka has been charged for alleged assassination attempt on Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
In addition to Madushanka, former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor and Fazeel Hameed have also been charged with attempted assassination of President Yameen.
The charge reads that Adeeb and Fazeel, along with a group of other people had sought a sniper to assassinate President Yameen. And that Madushankar was a sniper who was contracted and brought to Maldives for the hit.
Meanwhile, Ishaaq Hussain – brother of member of Normalization Committee of Football Association of Maldives and former football star Mohamed Hussain (Oittey) has been charged with being an accessary in the conspiracy to assassinate President Yameen.
The charge reads that Ishaaq had transported payment for the hit as instructed by Adeeb, fully aware that it was to assassinate the President.
