A huge fire overnight in Dh. Maaen'boodhoo Council headquarters has left it a skeleton, burning everything inside beyond repair.
The building caught fire at around 3:20 am, in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday, and the authorities were able to put out the fire completely at around 5:50 am.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear, and the police are investigating the case.
An official from the Council reported that the fire had consumed all the documents inside. And that the building did not have a security camera or a security guard.
Meanwhile, an official from Local Government Authority reported that MVR 114,000 had been allocated in the budget for the security of Maaen'boodhoo Council this year alone, but that no security guard had been hired since the current council members came to office.
