Zuhoor elected President of LGA

Minister of Home Affairs and member of Local Government Authority (LGA) Board of Directors – Ahmed Zuhoor has been elected President of LGA.

Zuhoor was elected President of LGA with the unanimous vote of all seven directors who attended the 9th LGA Board meeting.

There are total 9 directors in LGA Board.

LGA reported that no one except for Zuhoor had applied for the post.

Its stated in Article 140 of Maldivian Constitution that President of Maldives needs to appoint one of his Cabinet ministers to the Board, answerable to People’s Majlis on behalf of the government.

Zuhoor was appointed to LGA Board of Directors on June 29.

The post had been previously filled by former Home Minister Umar Naseer, who resigned in June.
