Member of MP Ahmed Mahloof’s legal team – Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar has been suspended by Criminal Court for comments he made to media regarding the ongoing case against Mahloof.
Criminal Court issued the announcement on Monday that Nazim will no longer be able to work as lawyer for Mahloof in the second case against him for obstructing police from performing their duty.
The court said that Nazim was suspend due to the comments he made regarding the trial during a press conference on July 21 – comments that the court says led to misconceptions regarding the trial among the public.
Court also said that it was a deliberate attempt on his part to influence the trial, using local media.
Nazim had said during the press conference that Mahloof wasn’t being treated fairly, and that the court had denied him his rights.
He said that the trial had been fast-tracked, and lacked the basic principles needed for a fair and just trial.
He said that the court has denied Mahloof the right to properly defend himself.
Mahloof is already serving a 4-month prison sentence on similar charges.
