Maldives Police Service has said that the traffic flow of two roads in Malé City, Alikilegefaanu Magu and Husnuheenaa Magu, has been changed temporarily. They are both originally one-way streets.
The Police website said that in an effort to identify the easiest flow of traffic on the two roads, the traffic flow would be changed and officers would be active on the road starting from this evening.
Alikilegefaanu Magu is currently a one-way street which allows traffic from south to north. And Husnuheena Magu, which is parallel to Alikilegefaanu Magu on the east, is a one-way street from north to south.
The new change would reverse the traffic flow on both roads making Alikilegefaanu Magu a one-way street from north to south and Husnuheenaa Magu from south to north.
Police said that the change was brought in an effort to lessen the load and improve traffic flow in the area at the hours of school start at end at the three schools, Arabiyya School, Ameeniyya School and Iskandhar School, on Chaandhanee Magu with the heavy vehicles being banned in the area during those hours.
This is a temporary change, says Police, and the decision to make the change permanent would be made after reviewing the pros and cons of the new traffic flow.
