Criminal Court, on Monday, sentenced MP Ahmed Mahloof to 4 months and 24 days in prison after he was found guilty of obstructing police from performing their duties.
He was sentenced for the alleged attempt to evade police captivity while he was escorted out of court after a remand hearing on April 3.
He is accused of refusing to board the police vehicle after the remand hearing in spite of repeated instructions by police officers and trying to make a run for it.
He was sentenced by Judge Ali Ibrahim.
Mahloof is also in the middle of another trial, having been accused of breaking through police barricades during opposition protests on March 25.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of 6 months in prison is he is proven guilty.
Mahloof will still retain his seat at People’s Majlis as he has not been sentenced to more than 1 year in prison, but will not be allowed to attend parliament sessions during his incarceration.
