Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the Ministry has identified the root cause of the problems faced Rasfannu Artificial Beach, and promised a permanent solution to the problem very soon.
Rasfannu – which opened 5 months ago – has had been facing soil erosion, and now severe flooding with the rainy season.
In an exclusive interview with “Sun” on Wednesday, Minister Muizzu said that it had been decided when Rasfannu was being built that the Ministry would continuously monitor for damage or problems and find solutions to them.
He said that the Ministry had now identified changes that needed to be brought to solve the problems, and would start implementing the changes very soon.
He said that changes would be brought to how channels through the reefs were cut, and how sand had been used in the beach.
Muizzu said that the changes would be made within 2 weeks by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), and that it did not require much capital.
“We believed then, and believe more strongly now that small changes can be made rather than major changes, and not at much expense,” he said.
Muizzu said that the small changes would provide a lasting solution to the current problems facing Rasfannu.
