Riyaz: No information received on any connection between Afrasheem murder and the President

Former Commissioner of Police and MP for Kimbidhoo constituency, Abdulla Riyaz has said that there is no information regarding a connection between the murder of the former MP, Dr. Afrasheem Ali and the President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom received to the investigation.

Responding to a question from one of his Twitter followers, Riyaz said that the investigation has received no information regarding a connection between President Yameen and the Afrasheem murder.

The people behind the murder of Dr. Afrasheem are yet to be revealed. The statement given to the investigation by Hussain Humam Ahmed, who has been convicted of the murder, says that he was approached for the murder by Azlif Rauf and said that Ali Shan (Sato) was involved in the murder with him.

Humam said that Azlif and Adam Solah (Spy) told him he would be paid MVR 4 million for the murder.

He said that Aside from those two people, a son-in-law of the Vice President of the Parliament Rico Moosa Manik, Abdulla Javid (Jaa) and his brother Shaheem Mohamed also met with him before the murder.

Dr. Afrasheem was murdered between 11:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. on the night of 1 October 2012 as he was entering his residence after returning from a religious program at TVM.

Criminal Court sentenced Humam on the death penalty on 16 January 2015 and was supported by the High Court on 7 September 2015. And the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the death sentence last night.
