Boat headed to Kanuhura Resort wrecks on reef

A boat headed from Male’ to Kanuhura Island Resort and Spa in Lh. Atoll with cargo wrecked on K. Maahal reef on Thursday.

Maldives National Defense Force said that the incident was reported to them at 6:44 am. And that the case involved the 65-foot “Island Express Hamathi” boat.

The Maldivian and three Bangladeshi nationals onboard the boat suffered no harm.

The bottom of the boat, however, was damaged in the incident.

Coastguard speedboat Harbor Craft 106 and divers have been mobilized to haul the boat.

MNDF Information Officer Adnan Mohamed said that the construction material the boat was carrying was being transferred to another boat.
