Adheeb moved to Maafushi Prison

Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor has been moved to Maafushi Prison.

After the court ruled Adheeb to be detained until the end of his trial, he was taken into the custody of the Police after some time with the Maldives Correctional Service and remained in Police custody until yesterday evening.

When Lawyer Moosa Siraj representing the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb, sent a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Areef saying that it is against the law to Adheeb in Dhoonidhoo after the sentencing, Assistant Commissioner, Abdulla Navaz said that Adheeb was still in Dhoonidhoo because the investigations are ongoing on the other charges against him.

Information Officer of the Correctional Service, Ahmed Luguman told Sun Media today that the Police handed over custody of the former Vice President around 5:45 p.m. yesterday, and Adheeb is now at Maafushi Prison.

A Police Media Official said that Adheeb was handed to the Correctional Service to serve out his sentence.
