Home Minister Umar Naseer has resigned

Umar Naseer has resigned from his position as the Home Minister.

In a tweet he sent out tonight confirming the resignation, he thanked the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and all the people who supported him.

Today I have decided to resign from my position as the Home Minister. I thank HEP Yamin and others for all their support.

The reason for the Home Minister's resignation is yet unclear. And so far there has been no word from the President's Office on the matter.

Talking to Sun Media tonight, the Assistance Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Navaz said that there are tweets going around in his name claiming that the Umar Naseer’s Twitter account was hacked and said that it is not his account spreading the rumors.

The State Media TVM said tonight that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has accepted the Home Minister’s resignation.
