Suood: Adheeb’s DNA was found on the pistol found at Nazim’s apartment

Lawyer Husnu Suood has said that the DNA of the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor was found on the pistol found at the residence of his client, former Defence Minister Colonel-retired Mohamed Nazim who is currently doing time for weapon’s possession.

As the 11-year sentence by the Criminal Court against the former Defence Minister is being appealed at the Supreme Court, talking to the press regarding the case tonight, Suood said that Adheeb’s DNA was found on the pistol found at the residence of Nazim when the Police investigated the case further. And

Talking to the press tonight, Suood said that a recent forensic report on the pistol show Adheeb’s DNA on it.

He said that the Home Minister, the Prosecutor General and the Police wouldn’t dare refute it.

Suood said that his client Nazim was framed and has been saying that before as well.

Lawyer Suood accused the former Commissioner of Police, Hussain Waheed and former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb of being behind the set up. But there is no evidence so far that President Abdulla Yameen was involved.

The matter has aroused at the last phase of the trial. Nazim was charged and convicted of import and possession of a firearm and sentenced based on closed witnesses against the former Defence Minister who testified that the firearm was found at Nazim’s residence and the defence, failing to explain how the weapon got into his residence.

The three judges on the bench at trail at the Criminal Court are Judge Abdulla Didi, the current Chief Judge at the High Court, Judge Sujaau Usman, currently at High Court and the Judge Abdul Baree Yousuf, currently running the Criminal Court.

Husnu Suood said that the defense has noted at the Criminal Court and the High Court that the investigation of the case is not fully completed.

When the accusations against the former Vice President was brought up by lawyer Maumoon Hameed at the Criminal Court trial, Judge Baree stopped him and said that he “cannot say that.”

The State Prosecutors also mentioned that a fingerprint was found on the firearm but did not say who the fingerprint belonged to.

The Defense has noted that at Criminal Court as well.
