Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Nawaz has said that former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor - who has been sentenced to 25 years by Criminal Court - was being kept under police detention at Dhoonidhoo because he was being investigated for other crimes.
Nawaz spoke to “Sun” on Saturday and said that Adeeb was not in Dhoonidhoo serving his jail sentence.
“Ahmed Adeeb is under investigation in other cases. This is why he is being kept in Dhoonidhoo,” said Nawaz.
Nawaz made the statement after Adeeb’s defense attorney Moosa Siraj accused police of holding Adeeb unlawfully while a jail sentence has been issued against him.
Adeeb was sentenced to 10 years in prison for weapons charges and another 15 years in prison for masterminding the explosion onboard presidential speedboat “Finifenma”.
