Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has said that they have been clearing the fruits and vegetables that are being imported for the month of Ramadan are being cleared through customs faster.
CEO of MPL, Mohamed Junaid said that previously it take 2-3 days to clear fruits and vegetables but now they are being cleared with eight hours.
He said that their team is now giving a special attention to perishable and the ships coming in are being cleared in about eight hours.
As a result, MPL CEO Junaid said that the prices of vegetables on the market are being held at the same level.
With the low amount of local produce this year for the month of Ramadan, a large number of fruits and vegetables are being imported to the country.
