Commonwealth assigns former Kenyan Chief Justice as Special Envoy to Maldives

Former Chief Justice of Kenya, Dr. Willy Mutunga has been assigned as the Special Envoy to the Maldives by the Commonwealth.

The announcement was made by Mutunga at a special ceremony at the Supreme Court for his retirement.

He said that he will be taking up a new job as a Commonwealth Special Envoy to Maldives where he is expected to aid in the process of constitutional and political transition in the country.

Mutunga was appointed to the post by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland.

“The overarching mandate is to support a sustainable political dialogue process leading to a stronger climate of pluralism and inclusive elections in 2018,” Dr. Mutunga said.
