Passengers onboard Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL 103 from Colombo to Male’ on Tuesday night faced damage to their luggage.
Some of the passengers said that their luggage was wet when they claimed them from the airport. And that some of the cardboard boxes were wet and torn as well, damaging possessions packed inside.
An operation officer of Sri Lankan Airlines office in Male’ said that the luggage had got wet during luggage loading when it suddenly started raining in Colombo.
“It started pouring when the luggage was being loaded. When it starts raining, a shade is used when the luggage is loaded, both in Male’ and Colombo,” said the official.
The official said that there was nothing any airline could do regarding such a case, as the damage wasn’t a result of anything manmade, but natural. Adding that the airline always tries to minimize the damage to their customers’ luggage.
The official said that about seven passengers had complained of damage to their luggage. And that any passengers who faced damage would be compensated for their loss if its reported to the airline.
